Account of Shoot day

The role I played:

Although we worked equally as a group, we each helped and participated in individual tasks throughout the day. Whilst our actors were getting their makeup done by Hannah, i helped to set up our location and started to hang up the pegs for the polaroids which i also took a few of. The polaroids was an essential part of our opening sequence and had a huge effect on the mise-en-scene within the thriller. We all used our strengths when filming and allocated the tasks which suited us best. For example I could not film whilst using the hand held camera as my hands kept shaking and so therefore the clip will not be to its best ability. Although i could not film whilst using the hand held camera, Jessica was able to do this meaning we could gather a wider range of shots to use in our final product. I was able to film whilst using the tripod and i filmed the pan along with Mia and filmed part of the flashback and final scenes, whilst using a range of camera angles to gather more shots of which we could se.. Once filming, i helped direct the lighting as we had to adjust it according to what we saw on the camera and not with our own eyes, this was essential in making our lighting perfect and so it was equal throughout and so not too dark or too bright. Hannah, Mia, Jessica and I all had equal opportunities on our shoot day to contribute in the filming of our opening sequence and we all helped non stop throughout the day, whether it was filming or controlling the lighting. Overall we worked really well as a group and i am extremely pleased with the outcome of the clips we filmed on the day. I believe we took enough shots to pick from and to use when editing and so therefore meaning we would not have to film again.

On the day we slightly differed from our original storyboard and added a range of many more shots, we did this in order to adapt to the location and the space of which we were filming in. For example: the tripod could not fit in the torture room, meaning that we had to use a hand held camera. Although this was a change of plan, it was very effective and the angles of which we filmed in looked really good, meaning that we can use it when editing and therefore adding to our final piece.

Overall, i am extremely pleased with the result and our shoot day met my expectations as we all worked really well and gathered a range of shots to use when editing. I think our mise-en-scene fully encapsulated the right effect as we followed the rules and conventions which are commonly used in thriller films, e.g isolated location, our makeup looked very professional and the lighting was dark and sinister.

If i had to go back and film again, i would make sure that we kept to the script as different words were said in different shots, meaning it will be difficult to merge and overlap shots when editing.
