Account of Shootday 1

  • For this day we knew that it was going to be used for all the spray painting shots, such as over the shoulder, point of view shot and side view shot. This is because we had to have a specific day to use the walls because they were being knocked down. This shows that we are organised because we planned in advance as to when the filming needed to take place
  • In order to prepare for this shoot day we made sure that Dani had practiced her lyrics for the chorus. This is because the spray painting location is going to be within the chorus. This was necessary because it enabled less time wasted on learning the chorus on the day and hence leaves us with more time to shoot.
  • Our animatic prepared us well for our shoot day because it showed us at which time in the song there need to be a certain shot. For example, at 1:05 an extreme close up was noted. This wasn't exact, although it was a base line at where we needed to begin. Having the story board was very useful on the day because it would tell us as a group if we have missed out any shots and if we needed to film anymore. For example, how many close ups we needed of her spray paining. Also once filmed, we didn't do an over the shoulder shot of her spraying, which shows the story board was useful as it showed us what we were missing.
  • The filming on this day went very well because as a group we were very organised. For example, before filming we made sure we practiced with the spray paint and did a rough plan of what Dani would be spraying. This was necessary because it made sure that Dani wouldn't make a mistake and knew how far away she needed to spray from the walls.
  • The additional shots that we added was a side view of Dani and a point of view shot
  • We added a point of view shot, where it looked like she was recording herself by holding the camera. We recorded this because because it was very effective and made the music video more interesting. When Dani holds the camera it allows it to be more personal and therefore can connect with the audience at a more personal level.
  • Dani was very sufficient on this filming day as she understood everything we told her to do and also did what felt right when she singing, e.g. how much she should move around or look at the camera
  • A problem in which we encountered was that by the ending of using the spray paint, it gave off a very strong smell so to prevent headache we had to open the windows to have some fresh air for the group.
  • The shots that worked much better than expected was the medium close ups and the close ups. This is because her face was very focused with clear lip syncing. Also in the background was the spray paint which was a very effective background for the shots.
  • We managed our time sufficiently, making sure we filmed a range of shots. For example we filmed more or less all the shots (close up, medium, extreme, over the shoulder, tracking) in order to make it easier for us when editing because this gave us a range of footage to use when editing.
  • For this day we all mainly had an equal role. I helped set up the camera and we all took turns in holding the light because the light wasn't fitting onto the light stand. As well as this, i had an input of what Dani should be spraying onto the wall. For example, i told her to spray the broken heart in order to emphasise that the narrative was about breakup. After filming we all helped pack away and discuss what we needed to do for the next filming day.
