Test Shots for our Digipak

For our digipak want to create this reality for our audience. We want them see our artists star image understand Dani as a synthetic artist. We decided the best way to show her star image through the digipak photos would be to have her simply showing herself and being open with her audience.

We thought a full length body shot would show her star image through her clothing. We had a photoshoot as seen above and believed the casual popular trousers with a black vest would see most relatable to an audience and therefore connect with her audience and fans.

The photograph above we decided to take the approach of using the conventions of the pop genre with is stereotypically bright colours on digipaks. Therefore we took this photo of our artist in bright happy clothing and edited it to make the colours pop out so our artist can really feel part of the pop genre. This worked well however we felt she was conforming too much to the stereotypes and conventions and straying away from her star image and narrative of her music video of being rebellious.

We learnt from our previous mistake of dressing our artist in too bright and simple clothing so for our next shoot we decided to dress her in a denim jacket and black trousers, the dark colours are stereotypically used for a mean rebellious meaning. However after trying to edit the photo we realised her smile and how the innocence over powered the efforts of her clothing choice. Using photoshop we tried to create warm colours to show moodiness but her smile was too overpowering, so this photo was not good enough for our dijipak.

Due to our previous shoot being to innocent and not capturing the narrative of our music video to make our products continuos. We decided to change her clothing to even darker colours and changed her denim jacket to a leather jacket and black trousers, because we didn't want to see her smile we took all risks about shot her from behind, for the audience to focus on something we edited the photographs to make the slight colours pop and the graphics on the back of her jacket. We then added a slight warm orangey filter and used some artsy graphics to show some random numbers to make the audience feel more connected because before that she felt very off from the audience, at the same time the positive is that it makes her rebellious which was left off from the previous point. However much these photos displayed most factors and affects we wished, one factor was not accounted for and that is the artists star image which is very important for a synthetic artist, that fact you cannot clearly see her face is a big negative and the audience cannot fully connect with her and relate, therefore we cannot use these images.

After we filmed we decided to go back to our location with all the spray paint and used it as a background to a shoot for our dijipak, we used red-head lights to make her make up pop and really show off her star image as a pop artist, we felt this was really affect and came out well, however a problem with this photo is her body language and we didn't really feel like she was selling herself as an artist and she was just lounging around standing there looking like she has no purpose.

Above is another photograph from our location shoot and this time we directed our artist to actually have an action (learning from our previous photo shoot) we felt that we should get her to use a prop and as the background was spray painted previously form our music video we thought about continuity throughout our products and as one main objective and narrative plot of our music video shows her spray painting the walls for revenge. This shot only shows her eyes which are staring directly into the camera creating tension and showing her feeling revengeful, as she directs the audience this creates a fearful and strong connection with her fans, this is supported by only seeing a section of her face.

After careful consideration we have decided that this photograph would and could be used effectively to show her star image, support conventions and hold continuity throughout all our media products. With the help of photoshop we will use this photograph for the CD face side of the digipak.

This photograph is very effective to the artists star image, the genre and the dijipak. What we are looking for is an image that clearly shows her face, with a blank expression to show her emotionless rebellious status, this photo is excellent because the colours work especially well with the theme of revenge, the black and red colours blend well with the lighting creating a seemingly dangerous shadow causing fear to the viewer which is slightly the aim, to feel as scared as the ex-boyfriend should feel.

I feel as though this photo from the graffiti shoot would be perfect for the roll of the front cover of the digipak, as it displays the title of the album, "Revenge", shows off her star image and style and relates perfectly to the theme with colour, lighting and costume. With a quick crop and some sort of filter with some added text this will be the front cover of the digipak.

The photograph above was taken when we went on a shoot around London, we found this bright pink wall and felt like this colour worked well with our artist and the pop genre, her body language and snarl of expression shows her two-faced side and fake personalised which is expressed in her music video. Her stance follows the rule of thirds and we made sure to take the photograph with her slightly cropped out and to the side so that there is room to enter text, due to conventions we feel that this image would be perfect to insert text to the left of her, and looking at similar digipak's we found that most artists used this sort of shot with a lot of space to put the track list, which is a vital part of a digipak. When editing this image we will keep the colour as it works perfectly with the pop genre however in order for the text of the songs to not be interrupted we will edit out using Photoshop all the lipstick images and the black text.

We have come to a decision that of all the photographs that we took this would be the back of the digipak for where the track list will go, showing her star image whilst also representing her music follows conventions of a synthetic artist.

This photograph causes juxtaposition between the front cover of the album and this photo; the back, due to colours, this shows how she two faced towards people and situations as clearly seen in the music video and on the digipak. The is due to the colours being darker and lighter, but to make sure there is continuity between all without getting rid of the juxtaposition we will slightly edit the front cover and make it more pinky to match the back photo, we can use the clone tool to make sure we use the same colours and continue our colour scheme and make it strong.
